I would like to present the concept of a Global Network of Automatic Small Telescopes as an idea whose time is right, scientifically and technically. There is no question in my mind that it will be a concept that is implemented in the not too distant future. The only question is how and when. It think it important that it be done in a reasonably planned way so as to take advantage of the many potentials. I am, therefore, going to present my ideas about GNAT, in an outline format with comments, both for brevity and for clarity. As will be noted at the end, I welcome any and all comments and critiques. Such input will 123 be used to help formulate one or more proposals for funding in an effort to bring the concept of a GNAT to reality.
