Abstract
Professional astronomers in developing nations can aid basic education implementing a few strategies that have been put into effect in Mexico. Recently the number of years of compulsory education in Mexico was doubled, from six to twelve. Astronomy was included in the high-school curriculum as an optional subject, so there are several ways in which one can contribute to the national education system . We must find ways to train people in a more effective way. Magazines and books dedicated to teachers can play important role, as can brief courses for educators and organized conferences for science teachers.
