Building an Extensive Liberal Arts Astronomy Program
Abstract
During a three-year period eight new astronorny courses
have been developed at Moorhead State College, all of
which are aimed primarily at liberal arts students. This
article briefly describes the astronomy program, physical
facilities, and equipment; attempts to identify those factors which led to the program's popularity; and makes some suggestions for others interested in introducing new astronomy courses. A specific proposal is made whereby the AAPT or other groups interested in science education can, at very minimal cost, substantially facilitate the introduction of new liberal arts physics and astronomy
courses.
