Abstract
Last week as I finished the preparations for my talk, I stacked up all of the material I have related to Education Reform in Science, Mathematics and Technology Education. This includes everything from the 2061 Benchmarks and National Science Education Standards, to various state outcomes and the New Standards Project initiative in assessment reform. The pile measures slightly over four feet - and staying abreast of Education Reform is far from my highest job priority.
In the short time that I have, I cannot cover all that is stated or implied in the emerging standards, compare their differences, and give definitive guidelines on
what astronomy should be taught at each grade. I can only give a general sense of the content of astronomy being emphasized in the emerging standards, and more important the implications of how astronomy - really all subjects - should be taught.
