Abstract
What are the benefits for high school science teaching of
the Partners In Science experience? They may range from
minimal to spectacular depending on the teacher involved
and the support available to bring new information,
techniques and credentials as a teacher-scientist
back to the classroom.
Two outstanding high school science teachers, Jeff
Lodcwood, formerly of Tucson's Sahuaro High School
(see "High School Students and Questions Without Answers," page 43). and Maureen Daschel of St. Mary's
Academy of Portland, Oregon (see ''A Research Methods
Class at a Girlis' School· Overturning Old Stereotypes,"
page 51), describe the highly positive developments that
took place in then classrooms following their partners
years. Both agree that education in the sciences improves
enormously when students are given an opportunity to explore questions without answers, and when teachers become their students' colleagues rather than their supervisors.
