Abstract
The purpose of this investigation is to make a detailed study of current practices in the teaching of science in public junior colleges* It is proposed to organize this investigation for each subject in the science curriculum under a number of topics each of which relates to a major division of the problem as a whole such as the scope of the science in junior colleges, aims and objectives, texts and supplementary materials, methods of teaching, equipment, teacher training and the teaching load.
It seems that an investigation of this nature is worth while inasmuch as the junior college has spread so rapidly that comprehensive scientific studies of its curricular organization have not kept pace with its growth.The result Is that the#science departments, as well as other subject divisions of the various junior colleges, have often borrowed their methods, content, text-books,etc., from either the university or the high school. The added purpose, then, of the present study is to analyze current practices in science teaching in junior colleges with the intention of determining whether or not they fulfil the recognized aims of the public junior college. If the science organization as revealed in this investigation is satisfying the objectives of the junior college, the in formation herein recorded may serve as a guide for further development of science teaching in junior colleges. If the information discloses that the science organization is deficient in any respect, perhaps, some recommendations for the improvement of science teaching in Junior colleges may he suggested
