Abstract
The primary purpose of automating a photometer is to increase the quantity and quality of observations. The automated photometer can operate at least as fast as a human observer and can work tirelessly at night. In addition, the automation removes many systematic errors from the measurements. It leaves the observer free to reduce and study the data.
