The title, of course, is a rather feeble word-play on the title of a notorious novel and movie. The topic, however, was chosen in all seriousness, keeping in mind the nature of this occasion and of this audience. In discussing it, I shall arbitrarily define a '' small telescope'' as the largest telescope I can put my arms around, namely 0.6 m (24 inch). I shall also restrict myself to ground-based optical telescopes.
